Welcome to 2018 – Starting with a Memory Game

Welcome to 2018, a New Year and one in which we’d love to get everyone coding! We’re starting this year with the continuation of our Scratch class, which is now half-way through the sessions we have prepared. Last week the class put together a boat race and we still have a number of handouts available. So if you missed the class, please come and collect one. This week the class will be working on a Memory Game, which introduces the concept of Lists, Random numbers and parametrised difficulty levels for their creation. It’s great how we can teach concepts like these while keeping the lesson fun!

We’re planning a new Roblox Scripting class which is scheduled to start next week. This is aimed at Intermediate Level students who already have some experience of scripting and would like to build their own game. If you know the basics and can bring your own machine along, please keep an eye on CoderDojo where we will be advertising this class shortly. If you haven’t signed up to CoderDojo yet, please head down and Join our Dojo: https://zen.coderdojo.com/dojos/im/douglas/douglas-iom-steam-lab

And finally a note for the adults: The WordPress User Group is meeting this Thursday. If you’re a WordPress user/developer or just want to learn more about WordPress, come join us. This session will be held at the Derivco building. More details here: https://www.meetup.com/Isle-of-Man-WordPress-Meetup/

That’s all for now. As always, a reminder that we could always use help to keep delivering classes, sessions and further learning on all things STEM. If you can dedicate some time, please get in touch, if not, you can always donate something from our wishlist: http://amzn.to/2Ab9VJl
